for a whole weekend with Odysseus Bailer! He’ll teach Swing and Blues classes with Laura, and he’ll share more of his knowledge about the history and culture of these dances in a lecture. There’ll even be an informal chat session on Sunday, so you can ask him all your burning questions about dancing and music. Teachers: you can join two pedagogy training sessions to sharpen your pedagogy skills.
Odysseus is coming all the way from New York City for a rare European tour, and will only be at a few events before he heads back home. Don’t miss this chance to learn directly from a culture bearer!
Odysseus Bailer is a NYC based Blues dancer, lindy hopper, DJ and Cultural Lecturer. He has been dancing both styles combined for over 20yrs and he is excited and honored to be teaching for you all in Heidelberg this year. He is extremely excited to be sharing his knowledge, insight and perspective on the Black American Culture. Odysseus has also been one of the many voices in the dance scene committed to helping the scene, collectively, get a better nuanced understanding, respect and appreciation for the culture to which we are all participating in.
The weekend will be packed! For only 149€, you'll get:
• 7h of dance classes (Blues and Lindy)
• Lecture on Saturday

We always need a couple of helpers for things like door duty throughout the party, closing up the room after the party or running errands (lunch/snacks) in between classes.
If you're interested in helping out with some of these tasks, write down what help you could offer and also if you'd like a discount on the workshop price in exchange.
Regardless of volunteering, please reach out to me if you need a discount to make the weekend affordable for you.

You've been dancing to swing music for a while; you have a solid foundation in triple-step basics and your repertoire includes foundational moves like tuck turns and swingouts. You're keen to develop your social dancing skills, find your own voice in the dance, become more creative with your partner and get a deeper understanding of the culture that Lindy Hop is a part of.
“Lindy Hop And Blues: a Black American Cultural Music and Dance Form”
In order to understand the roots of the music and dance we love, we must understand the history of the people that created them and why.
Odysseus' lecture will both informative and informal ;) Feel free to stretch, to relax, and have your lunch while you soak up all the information he has to share.
There's no level requirement here, anyone excited to develop teaching skills is welcome to join. The topic will be "how to center the culture in your dance classes". This means Odysseus will be sharing with us his perspective on something really crucial: how can we create dance classes that stay as true to Black American culture as possible.
